Symptoms and service

What’s changed with your refrigerator?

Sub-Zero installations range from older grille-top built-ins to concealed refrigerator columns and PRO models. Doors, controls, access panels and cooling arrangements vary. A cabinet that looks similar from the outside may need a different diagnostic procedure, so we identify the model before deciding what to test.

The refrigerator is warm, but the freezer seems fine

Separate observations for each compartment are more useful than a single description of the whole appliance. Note the display, any measured temperature and when you first noticed the change. A cold freezer does not establish that the refrigerator section is operating correctly.

Frost, condensation or a door that will not stay closed

Check whether a container or drawer is in the way. Moisture near one door edge, a visibly damaged seal or a change after cabinet work are useful clues. The technician will examine the closing action and surrounding conditions before attributing the problem to a gasket.

New noise or unusually long running

A change in sound is worth recording, especially if it comes and goes when a door opens. Fans, installation contact and the cooling system can produce different noises. A recording can help describe an intermittent problem without keeping you beside the refrigerator all day.

What we check.

We measure temperatures, check airflow and door seals, and test the controls and cooling components that could explain the problem. A warm cabinet alone cannot tell us whether a compressor or control board has failed. The measurements guide the repair.

Getting ready for service.

Leave a clear working area in front of the appliance and keep the model label accessible if it is easy to reach. Do not pull a built-in refrigerator out of its enclosure. If cooling is unreliable, move temperature-sensitive items to suitable storage rather than waiting for an appointment to protect them.

A built-in refrigerator needs more than a size match.

  • Tell us whether it has custom cabinet panels or a stainless front.
  • On paired columns, identify the refrigerator and freezer separately.
  • Mention recent installation, door adjustment or other repair work.
