What’s changed with your cooktop?
The service approach depends on whether the appliance is gas, electric or induction, and whether it is a cooktop set into the counter or a larger rangetop. Modular cooking units also need to be identified separately. Tell us the layout rather than relying only on the number of knobs or burners.
Gas ignition has become inconsistent
Notice whether the issue is limited to one burner and whether it followed cleaning or a spill. Turn the burner off if ignition is not normal. Do not keep releasing gas while waiting for a flame or try to change the gas adjustment yourself.
An induction zone does not heat a pan
Check the cookware guidance in the owner’s manual and note whether a known compatible pan works on another zone during normal use. A pan-recognition issue and a zone that cuts out after heating are different observations. Record any message exactly as it appears.
The control area is unresponsive
Describe whether the whole surface is affected or only one control. Lock settings, moisture on the surface, power conditions and component faults need to be distinguished. Keep a record of what the appliance was doing before the problem started.
What we check.
For a gas cooktop, we check the affected burner and ignition system. For induction, we look at pan recognition, zone response, controls and power. The technician follows the symptom through the appropriate system instead of assuming that every inactive zone has the same cause.
Getting ready for service.
Clear and cool the cooking surface. Leave under-counter access available without disconnecting the appliance, and mention any drawers or built-in equipment directly below it. Do not use a cracked glass surface. If a gas odor is present, leave and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe place.
Identify the affected burner or cooking zone.
- Describe a gas burner, electric element or induction zone.
- Tell us whether the problem is limited to one position or affects the whole surface.
- Mention any recent spill, cleaning or installation work without dismantling the controls.
