Symptoms and service

What’s changed with your microwave?

Standard microwaves, convection microwaves and speed ovens do not use every cooking function in the same way. Identify which mode failed and whether the unit is a standalone built-in, a drawer or part of a combination installation. The model number tells us which cooking functions are fitted.

The timer runs but food stays cold

Note the selected mode and power level and whether the countdown seems normal. A control setting, door-related condition or internal heating fault can present differently. The sound of a running fan does not confirm that microwave energy is being produced.

The door or drawer does not close properly

Stop forcing the mechanism if it catches or does not sit as it used to. Describe any recent trim or installation work and whether the controls respond when the door closes. The latch and interlock arrangement must be examined without being bypassed.

There is arcing, an unusual odor or repeated interruption

Stop using the appliance and report what you observed. Note the container and mode involved, but do not run it again simply to make a video. Stop using the microwave if the door or cavity is visibly damaged, and arrange service.

What we check.

The technician checks the door, controls and the functions involved in the fault. A convection model may need separate checks for microwave heating and other cooking modes. Internal testing belongs to the technician; the appliance can contain hazardous stored energy even when unplugged.

Getting ready for service.

Remove food and allow the unit to cool. Leave the microwave installed, with the surrounding counter accessible. Provide the model number or a photo of the label if it can be seen without moving the appliance. Do not remove the outer cover, modify a latch or run the microwave empty to test it.

Tell us how the microwave is installed.

  • Describe a drawer microwave or a unit fitted into a cabinet opening.
  • Mention whether the display, drawer or door responds normally.
  • Leave the enclosure and surrounding trim in place.
